The INAUGURAL AI-Semiconductor CONFERENCE | Hanoi, Vietnam

Innovating Futures: Bridging AI & Semiconductors Globally

On March 12-14, 2025, Hanoi became the epicenter of technological innovation as it hosted the Inaugural AI-Semiconductor Conference. This prestigious event brought together an extraordinary assembly of global leaders, including the Prime Minister of Vietnam, top diplomats, renowned technologists, and industry CEOs, all united by a shared vision for the future of AI and semiconductor technologies.
The conference offered a comprehensive program featuring high-level discussions, technical deep dives, research presentations, and intimate fireside chats. Bilateral meetings provided valuable opportunities for collaboration, making this a must-attend event for stakeholders at the intersection of AI and semiconductor industries.

The Power of Domain-Specific AI Agents

Five months ago, I had the privilege of watching Christopher Cuong T. Nguyen, CEO of AITOMATIC, present on Domain-Specific AI Agents. His presentation perfectly aligned with conclusions from our GenAI Hackathon win the previous day. Fascinated by the potential, I immediately connected with AITOMATIC, booked a demo, and expressed my desire to bring their solution to ANZ.
Fast forward five months to the conference, where I found myself talking with Christopher and capturing this journey with a selfie. The experience left me both humbled and empowered by the visionary industry leaders who are creating new technological frontiers.

DXA: Beyond ChatGPT

Domain-specific AI Agents represent a fundamental paradigm shift in artificial intelligence. Unlike general-purpose LLMs trained on broad internet data, these specialized agents are fine-tuned on industry-specific datasets, terminology, and process knowledge, achieving remarkable accuracy rates exceeding 95%.

The Human Element Remains Critical

A key insight from the conference was the complementary relationship between AI and human expertise. AI and semiconductors are fueling each other's evolution while creating entirely new categories of jobs.
For those concerned about AI replacing human workers, the conference revealed a surprising reality: skilled and experienced professionals aren't just "still needed" – they're becoming the most valuable assets in the industrial world. Industry projections indicate the global semiconductor sector will require over one million additional skilled workers by 2030 to meet exploding demand.

SEMIKONG.ai: Revolution in Semiconductor Design

One of the most exciting announcements at the conference was SEMIKONG.ai – the world's first semiconductor industry-specific Large Language Model. Developed by AITOMATIC and its partners in the "AI Alliance," SemiKong aims to integrate seamlessly into semiconductor design company workflows, acting as a digital expert to significantly accelerate chip development cycles.

The Knowledge Gap: A Critical Challenge

My conversations with business leaders at the conference revealed a common challenge: the difficulty of capturing institutional knowledge. While this concept was new to many attendees, they readily acknowledged it as a critical missing piece in their organizations. This gap makes knowledge transfer incredibly difficult and often results in substantial productivity losses.

Insights from International Leaders

Prof. Dr. Young-Sup Joo: A Holistic Approach to AI Transformation
Former SME Minister of Korea, Prof. Dr. Young-Sup Joo, delivered a compelling presentation on Vietnam's path toward industrial AI transformation. He emphasized that sustainability must extend beyond environmental concerns to encompass social and human dimensions, referencing the "Human Security for All (HS4A)" initiative announced by CES.
Dr. Joo outlined two strategic approaches for national development:

The "Fast-Forward Strategy" focused on efficiency by following established leaders
The "First-Mover Strategy" centered on innovation and directional leadership

He advocated that countries like Vietnam should prioritize the first-mover approach, developing AI based on clear national purpose rather than merely following technological trends.
Key takeaways included:

Purpose-Driven AI: Development guided by human sustainability
Strategic Direction: Defining unique national purpose in the AI era
Beyond AI: Prioritizing data, common knowledge, and domain expertise
Evolution of AI: Progression from Perception AI to Physical AI
Industrial AX Leadership: Every nation's potential to lead in Industrial AX
Global Citizenship: The importance of social and human sustainability

Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính: Vietnam's Technological Vision
Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính's address demonstrated Vietnam's strategic vision for technological advancement and economic transformation. He called for a fundamental mindset shift to embrace innovation and future opportunities.
The Prime Minister highlighted Vietnam's success in attracting major technology investors:

Honeywell: Implementing the "Made in Vietnam Initiative" with plans to relocate $50M of manufacturing capability from China and Mexico to Vietnam by the end of 2026
NVIDIA: Acquiring VinBrain, a Vietnamese AI startup, and establishing an R&D Center for AI in Vietnam
Google: Establishing Google Vietnam to reinforce its presence in the country's digital economy
Amkor Technology, Inc.: Investing $1.07 billion in semiconductor packaging and testing facilities in Vietnam

Prime Minister Chính emphasized that technological development "is not a single game" and made an open call for international collaboration, seeking partners to establish training centers and transfer knowledge in emerging technologies.
Vietnam's Economic Future
A notable projection shared at the conference positions Vietnam to become the Asia-Pacific region's fastest-growing economy in 2026, underscoring the nation's emerging role as a technology hub in Southeast Asia.
